VESZPRÉM
Veszprém is the "City of Queens". The footsteps of royal descendants are preserved on the ancient cobblestones, worn for thousands of years, and a whole series of legends surrounds everyone who visits it. According to our predecessors, Veszprém was built on seven hills, just like the famous Rome. The city was a favorite place of residence of King István I and his wife Gizella and enjoyed its heyday during the time of the first royal couple. They founded a bishopric, with their support St. Michael's Cathedral and the nunnery in Veszprémvölgy were built - where, according to legend, the vestments that became the coronation robes of the Hungarian kings could be made. Gizella donated the embroidered garment to the local church, thereby making the settlement a "city of queens". The centuries brought both destruction and reconstruction. Bishop Márton Bíró Padányi eliminated the castle's small houses and alleyways, creating the representative Szentáromság square lined with canon palaces, thus creating one of the largest inhabited, historic castle ensembles in our country, which is considered a top attraction in Veszprém.
